Do I need an account to use Maestro Academy?
You can jump into Live games as a guest, but to save your progress, XP, streaks, lessons and quiz results — and to reach most of the Academy — you'll want a free account.
How much does Maestro Academy cost?
Maestro Academy is free for students in a class, for teachers, and for U.S. military veterans. Everyone else gets the Academy included with a Playtime subscription — one subscription covers the app and the Academy. A school email or veteran status also discounts Playtime. Miles, the AI assistant, runs on a Playtime subscription for everyone. See what's inside.
How is the Academy related to the Playtime app?
Maestro Academy is the web companion to Playtime, the mobile practice studio. Your Playtime account works on both, your progress and AI assistant carry across — and a Playtime subscription includes full Academy access.
Can I sign in with my Playtime app account?
Yes — use the same email and password you use in the app, or the Continue with Apple / Continue with Google buttons if that's how you sign into Playtime. Signing in this way also links Miles, the AI teaching assistant, to your app account.
I use Apple or Google for the app and have no password. How do I sign in?
Use the Continue with Apple or Continue with Google button on the sign-in page — those accounts don't have a password to type.
Which sign-in do I use — class code, email, or the buttons?
Students in a class use a class code + username + PIN. Teachers and independent learners use their email (or the Apple/Google buttons). Leave the class-code box empty if you're not a class student.
Do I have to give an email address?
Class students don't — they sign up with just a username and a PIN, no email required. Teacher and independent (Playtime) accounts do use an email.
I'm a U.S. military veteran — how do I get my discount?
Tick the “I'm a U.S. military veteran” box when you sign up. It's an honor-system thank-you: the Academy is free for vets, plus a discount on the Playtime app.
Is my data private?
See our Privacy Policy and Terms. Student accounts are deliberately minimal — a username and a PIN, with no email collected.
I'm locked out or forgot my sign-in.
Students: ask your teacher to reset your PIN from their class roster. Teachers & independent learners: if you sign in with your Playtime account, reset your password in the app; otherwise use the Support link and we'll help.

How do I create a teacher account?
Go to Create a teacher account and sign up with your school email address. We check it against our directory of school domains, then email you a link to confirm you own the address.
Why do I need a school email?
It's how we validate real educators — and validation is what makes the Academy free for you and your students.
My school isn't in your directory.
You'll see a “we don't recognize that school yet” note. Use the contact form with your school's name and website and we'll add it quickly.
I didn't get the verification email.
Check your spam folder, and resend it from the “verify your email” page after signing up. The link comes from our Academy address.
Is the Academy free for me and my students?
Yes — the Academy is free for you and for every student in your classes. Teachers and students also get a discount on the Playtime app.
How do my students join my class?
Share your class code. Students go to Join a class, enter the code, and pick a username and PIN. No email needed on their end.
Where do I find my class code?
On your Classes dashboard — each class has its own short code you can read aloud in the room or drop into an assignment.
What can I do as a teacher?
Build lessons and assign modules, run the Quiz Studio, grade work, message students, see per-student analytics, schedule video lessons, and host live games for the whole class.
Can I use Miles, the AI teaching assistant?
Miles runs on your own Playtime account's AI allowance, so it needs a Playtime app subscription — discounted with your school email. The Academy stays free for teachers either way; Miles is the one thing that doesn't come with it.
I'm also a veteran.
Tick the veteran box at sign-up for the thank-you — it's also its own path to the Playtime discount.
Do I have to buy the app to teach?
No. For teachers, classes, lessons, quizzes, grading and analytics are free. A Playtime subscription adds the Miles AI assistant — and for learners outside a classroom, it's what includes Academy access.

Joining a class, or going it alone on your own self-paced pathway.
How do I join my class?
Get the class code from your teacher, go to Join a class, then pick a username, a PIN (4–8 digits), and your instrument.
I don't have a teacher — can I still use it?
Absolutely. Sign in with a Playtime account, choose Learner, and leave the teacher-code box blank. You'll start on Individual Pathways — the full student toolset, self-paced, no class required.
What's the difference between a Classroom and Individual Pathways?
Classroom means you joined a teacher's class — you'll get their assignments and show up on their roster. Individual Pathways is solo and self-guided, with no teacher.
Can I add a teacher later?
Yes. From your Pathways page, enter a teacher code any time to move into that teacher's Classroom.
Do I need an email (or a parent's email)?
No. Class students sign up with just a username and a PIN — no email is collected.
I forgot my PIN.
Ask your teacher to reset it from their class roster. Independent learners: reset your Playtime password in the app.
Why do you ask for my instrument?
Games and sheet music use your instrument's clef, so the notes show up where you actually read them.
Is it free?
If you're in a class or signed up with a school email — yes, completely free. Same if you're a U.S. military veteran. Learning on your own with a personal email? The Academy comes included with a Playtime subscription, and a school email or veteran status discounts that too. See what's inside.
What can I do here?
Play the Arcade and Live games, follow Lessons and the Journey, practice with real sheet music, take quizzes, and track your progress and streak.
Can Miles, the AI helper, just give me the answers?
Miles is a tutor, not a cheat sheet — it gives hints and explanations but never quiz answers. AI runs on a Playtime account's allowance, so full Miles chat needs an app subscription. Everything else in the Academy is free.
